Transmedia Storytelling

We NGOs are under great pressure to use social media to connect, to narrate, to share, to interact. Wherever we go we hear the same buzz words – Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, Blogs, and so on. We can feel a little bewildered, a little lost in this ocean of constantly changing tools.  Often based in unconnected areas, with slow internet speeds, we can find it a bit difficult to jump on the bandwagon.  And those of us who do have access, skills, and language are not way ahead either.

For one, we need to under the truly multi media differently. Is it that we have one message and we post the same thing on different platforms? Are we hoping that by ‘sending out’ our story through mails, Facebook posts, and Tweets it will go forth and multiply? Perhaps even go viral?

We may need a bit of a rethink. Need to understand Transmedia communications and storytelling a bit better.

This site on Transmedia Storytelling is pretty compelling. It is something we, in the Development Sector, can use and help ourselves. Especially see the case-study of the Three Little Pigs. It is simply entertaining and educative!
